Don’t disqualify yourself from the promises of God.
We’re entering into the dawn of a new day and the dawn of a new month. Which means, a new series!! It was hard at first deciding g what to talk about this month. Then it hit me, what does the month of scares do? While it gives joy to some, the fear runs ramped with horror movies, ghouls and goblin talk. So this month we are going to apply the truth to our fears. Let’s discover how to clean out your:
Some of the top skeletons in our closet have roots. By that I mean you may be afraid of an animal, movie, memory, but at the core something made you fear it. That is what we like to call a root.
For example, a kid who throws a ball and breaks a glass window. The thing you see is the shattered glass. The money it will take to repair. Probably the punishment for what the kid has done. Now, where does this root thing come in? The root would be “why did the kid throw the ball?” When we take ourselves out of the situation and look at the whole picture, we begin to understand there is more than what we can see.
Now having talked a little about roots. Let’s talk about doubt. Doubt is a 5 letter word that hinders a lot of people from pursuing their dreams. You’ve probably said, “I doubt blank would happen.” That blank could be filled with endless possibilities. I doubt I will have enough money to do what God has told me to do. I doubt I have what it takes to do this. I doubt I will ever get over how I feel towards them. I doubt. I doubt. I doubt.
You see it could go on and on. The reality is, your doubts don’t define God’s goodness to provide. Doubt creates a place for “what if.” What if this falls through? What if this doesn’t end up as I want it to? What if this just proves what I thought I couldn’t do?
If you took the word “this” a root can be exposed. Who are you leaning on to be in control over your situation? Are you trying to do it in your own power? Are you leaning on God?
How about replacing “this” with “God?” What if God falls through? What if God doesn’t do it as I want it to? You see doubt can be formed from the enemy. It’s a distraction to make you believe less in who God really is.
Genesis 3, is the temptation of the enemy to trap Adam and Eve. One of the biggest lies the enemy ever told was in verse 5.
“For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Genesis 3:5 NKJV
How about reading it like this? “Eve, God has something and won’t give it to you. If you eat this, you’ll know what this God has been holding back from you.”
See the tactics of the enemy don’t change because they still work. Have you ever thought “Lord, why won’t you give me this blank?!? Why are you holding it back from me?!? What have I done?!?”
“For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly.”
Psalms 84:11 NKJV
The truth is the enemy has been lying to you. NO good thing does He withhold from YOU!! We will have doubt come. John 16:33, says we will have trials and tribulations. We will have doubts. But be of good cheer for He has overcome the world.
Focus on what He is doing for you. Rather than what you’re lacking. Be thankful that you aren’t who you were, but who you are today and who you will be in the future. He has a good plan for your life. You can’t mess this up.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV
“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Romans 8:31 NKJV
Join us next week as we learn there is more than meets the eye. The enemy has been lying to you for way too long.
