// Jesus, oh, my brother. I love You more than ever. From the cross Your love is carrying me now. //
Jesus My Brother: Chris Tofilon
Don’t discount your alone time with the Lord.
The one thing that seems to plague our world today is silence. The way people react and respond. It is a powerful tool. Jonah soon found that out. We left off him in the belly of a fish, read Established Authority to catch up.
Jumping into Jonah 2, we hear the thoughts of Jonah. He cries out. He is left alone to be by himself. So often we want to hear what everyone else hears from God. But that’s not how a relationship works.
As we read from Jonah 2 we encourage you to read the full passage for yourself that you may gain your own revelation and understanding. We will be paraphrasing in order to honor your time.
“And he said: “I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, And He answered me. “Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, And You heard my voice.”
Jonah 2:2 NKJV
Here Jonah breaks the biggest lie the enemy will tell you. “That you are alone. That God has left you.” Which simply isn’t the truth. It would actually break and contradict what God says. Let me just show you.
“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 NKJV
“When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; And my prayer went up to You, Into Your holy temple.”
Jonah 2:7 NKJV
Jonah 2 reminds us to remember who He is. In the midst of our darkness, we have to remember He is the light. One lit match can spark a revolution. I had a friend tell me this quote “1 truth from God will shatter a 1000 lies of the enemy.”
That stuck in my spirit. We have to get this. There is an enemy who is trying to steal, kill, and destroy you!! (John 10:10) but the promise is He has come to give us life. In overflow! We can’t focus on the negatives in our life because it will keep your mindset in despair at the “what if” life. The what if this happens, or what if that happens.
“But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.”
Jonah 2:9 NKJV
We have to stop. Remember who He is. Then we also have to remember what He has done for us. Over and over. Giving thanks. Because He will do it again in your life.
This was a time of thinking. Jonah knew the city he was going to be sent to. He probably told people and they gave their opinion. But it never says Jonah sat with the Lord and talked. Silence can drive people mad. But the silence was meant to bring peace. Have you seen the scripture about the raging sea? Jesus said, “peace be still.” (Mark 4:39)
“So the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.”
Jonah 2:10 NKJV
Jonah had learned his lesson. To be still and know He is God. (Psalms 46:10) Jonah repented and it set him free. The mouth was opened. Catch us next week to see if Jonah will walk the walk and talk the talk.
