Fill Us With Glory: Jaye Thomas
Just one touch with Jesus breaks the chains that held you down.
Freedom lasts forever, but this topic has come to an end. Freedom isn’t as scary as it once was. When you live freedom out, you just are free. You no longer have to try. The attacks come, but they don’t affect you like they once did. You see the attacks before they come.
We’ve seen the testimony of freedom in Founding Freely. We’ve seen the reason we need freedom in Taking It Back. We’ve seen that Jesus wants us to be free in Echoing Well. Now, what if freedom hasn’t come for you yet? Do you just give up?
Today’s Bible reading comes from Luke 8:43-48. We encourage you to read these passages for yourself. As we want to honor your time in paraphrasing for you. So reading the whole story helps you in that you may grow in wisdom and revelation.
This is a teaching point about reading before and after scriptures to understand the whole picture. We start off with a 12-year-old girl, who was sick. This launched a mission. Go to the girl. Jesus was crowded and trying to walk to His destination was bumping into people left and right. That may not sound important until you read this.
“And Jesus said, “Who touched Me?” When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, “Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”
Luke 8:45 NKJV
A woman who had issues with bleeding for 12 years was desperate. By this point in Jesus’ ministry, He was well known. That’s why everyone wanted to follow Him to see what He’d do next.
Have you ever been so hurt or so sick that you’d do anything to make it stop? Take a pill, go to sleep, even maybe you’ve said: “I’d rather die.” Imagine that feeling for 12 years. Then you hear a man is coming this way with a cure. You don’t know all the specifics. But people say one touch and people are healed.
No rewind to while Jesus was walking in the crowd. He exclaimed, “who touched me?” When you’ve done everything you can, but you’re after the only one who can make the difference. You go. That ”go” sets forth a faith to rise. “If only I can touch His hem. That’d be enough.”
Verse 43, tells us that she’d already been to doctors and probably other forms of healing at the time. She’d probably paid her life in debt. But God!
“Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately.”
Luke 8:47 NKJV
This is it! One encounter with Jesus broke the lie that she’d always have this disease! He broke the words of the doctors, the community, even what she’d spoken over herself. Verse 46, Jesus says “I felt power leave me!”
She was healed. But better than that she was restored. Have you ever heard of the town crazy? You just know they are crazy. Everyone knows. It wasn’t a moment they received that name. It was over time. Same response to the same reaction.
Now imagine being so sick that everyone knew it. 12 years this woman was labeled as sick. Possibly a “don’t come near me.” But in one moment He called her out of the shadows to publicly restore her. The community was there when she was healed. No longer sick.
“And He said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”
Luke 8:48 NKJV
Faith has changed in her to believe in the one who believed in her. Loved her. Restored her.
Back to the original mission. Because though you may be assigned one task. He will redirect and hold you in a setting to minister to the 1 out of 99. This 1 took a disease to the king, and the king gave her restoration healing power.
You may have done the same thing. Been to every doctor. Been to every medication. Been to other practices for healing. But Jesus has the same idea. He gets the final say. Trust in Jesus. He’s ready to heal you.
So the mission seemed to fail. The people came to Jesus and tried to discourage Him. The 12-year-old girl had passed. But Jesus even redeemed the time. The girl who was marked dead was only asleep in Jesus’ name.
Your time is not over. It’s not too late. Ask for an encounter and see what He does! Next week we’ll begin on a new series. Stay tuned. We hope you’re ready.
